Quick reminder this Indigenous Peoples Day:
Native Hawaiians aren’t Native American.
Despite our occupation, we are not American. We are Kānaka Maoli. We are the Indigenous people of Hawai’i. We are Hawaiians.
“We are not Americans. We will die as Hawaiians.”
!!!
this is actually a very important thing to keep in mind. a senator has already tried to push legislation that would align us with Native Americans in the legal sense decades ago, &this was an exceedingly divided thing because at the end of the day, kānaka māoli are still fighting for the united states to admit that there is no annexation paperwork. our sovereignty movement is alive&well, &fighting for the admittance that we are an illegally occupied nation, which factually means we are not American, &our land is not USA soil.
we will NEVER be american.
the thing is, i think horror needs to have a little love. it needs to have an obsession. does the parasite in your body love you? it raises you from the dead, it sustains you. this is its body. this is your body. does the haunted house feel intruded upon? is it hungry? what is hatred but adoration?
I wish Carrie & Lowell felt less like a sucessful exercise in generating “Sadness” and more like a collection of songs that the artist cared about writing
this is so funny the guy from car seat headrest thinks Carrie & Lowell is disingenuous. next up, Elvis Depressedly on why Elliot Smith was a fraud
